David H. Griffith, 92, of Chapman Twp, Snyder County passed away on July 30, 2026 at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

He’s survived by his wife, Kathy (Brooks), and his daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Linh Nguyen of Saline, Michigan. Also by his beloved granddaughter, Mahala Rose Nguyen, upon whom the sun rose and set to her grandpa.

David was born on March 8, 1934 in Ephrata, PA to John “Clem” and Annie (Hornberger) Griffith. He was the grandson of Reverend David and Amanda Hornberger with whom he spent much of his childhood.

David graduated from Ephrata High School in 1952. While there he was a star running back for their championship football team. He was awarded the Outstanding All Lancaster Football Association player for 1951. In 1999 David was voted the #5 all time greatest athlete by the readers of the Ephrata Review. After high school he attended Penn State University playing football for Rip Engle and Joe Paterno until he was drafted into the Army. He served in the D Company 40th Armor Tank Company Berlin. After his discharge he returned to Penn State to complete his degree.

He worked as an Inventory Specialist at Mechanicsburg Naval Depot until his retirement. He then worked at the PA Liquor Control Board until his retirement in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law Elinore and Charles Ruhl, Mount Joy, PA, Phoebe and Marlin Inch of Selinsgrove, PA and Eugene Hughes, Mechanicsburg, PA. He is survived by nieces Rebecca Ruhl Soriano and husband Jon, Mary Ruhl Berlage and husband Bruce, Lisa Ruhl Sanner and husband Doug, Heather Inch Desuta and husband Joe and nephews, Jon Ruhl and wife Teri and Jeff Inch. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Darryl and Patrick Hughes, sister-in-law Shelly Hughes, and many great nieces and nephews.

David loved watching football and reading about American History and Government. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed driving tractors. He leaves behind good friends and neighbors. He was deeply loved and will be forever missed by his wife and family.

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 606 N Front Street, Liverpool, PA.
