Elroy R. Mengel

Elroy Mengel of Selinsgrove passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026, at the age of 94, surrounded by his family. Born March 6, 1932, Elroy lived a life marked by faith, service, hard work, and a deep desire to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.

Elroy attended Freeburg High School and spent 20 years as co-owner of Apple and Mengel Fruit Farm and 10 years as owner of Susquehanna Sprinkler Company.

At the center of Elroy’s life was his faith in Jesus Christ. For 62 years, he was a devoted member of Richfield Life Ministries Church, serving his church family in many roles throughout the years. His service included four years as a deacon, eight years as a youth leader, and time as President of the Church Council and Sunday School Superintendent.

Elroy’s desire to share the Gospel extended beyond his local church. He was actively involved with the Snyder County Gideon Camp, serving at different times as both president and treasurer. For 15 years, he also helped facilitate Bible distribution at Susquehanna University. Whether through church leadership, Bible distribution, or conversations with those around him, Elroy’s greatest desire was for others to know the hope he had found in Jesus Christ.

During the final 10 years of his life, Elroy devoted much of his time and energy to the building project at Richfield Life Ministries Church. He was grateful to see those years of work come to fruition when the congregation moved into its new facility this past year.

Elroy is survived by his wife, Jean Mengel; his two daughters, Sherry Ferster and Brenda Arch; four grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Richfield Life Ministries, 53 Mill Road, Richfield, PA, on October 3rd, at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow the service.
