John L. Peters

John L. Peters, 87, of Richfield, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at home.

He was born October 31, 1938, in Sunbury, a son of the late Miller and Faye (Steininger) Peters. On April 25, 1959, he married the love of his life, the former Betty Lovina Ferster, who preceded him in death November 1, 2021.

John was a graduate of Middleburg High School.

He worked in construction and roadwork at Faylor-Middlecreek, now called New Enterprise, until his retirement in 2003. He also worked for the family business, Peters’ & Wagenseller’s Furniture Store, Middleburg.

John was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed woodworking, going on trips, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also looked forward to hosting square-dances and fish fries, attending County Line Coffee Club every morning and afternoon, and was very active in the community at Niemond’s Independent Church, Richfield.

He is survived by three children, Debra Dar and her husband Tariq of Princeton, New Jersey, Lori Goodling and her husband Andrew of Richfield, and Mark Peters and his wife Lisa of McAlisterville; nine grandchildren, Shehzad Dar and his wife Amber, Saira Dar, VMD and her husband Gal Sharon, MD, McKayla Shur and her husband Matt, Joshua Peters and his wife Alyssa, and Jacob Peters; three great-grandchildren, Sebastian Dar, Theodore Dar, and Shai Sharon; and one sister, Sylvia Strawser and her husband Ron.

In addition to his parents and his wife of 62 years, John was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Richard Herbster.

Family and friends are welcome from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2025, and again from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2025, at Niemond’s Independent Church, 36964 Route 35, Richfield, PA 17086, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, with Pastor Ron Berrus officiating.

Burial will follow in Niemond’s Cemetery.
