Larry Eugene Womer

Larry Eugene Womer, 80, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, entered into rest on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born December 14, 1945, in Sunbury, a son of the late Carson L. and Naomi (Hoffman) Womer. On Valentine’s Day in 1970, he married the former Barbara Ann Burkland, who survives.

Larry was a 1963 graduate of Middleburg High School.

In 1970, he began his career as a correctional officer at USP, Lewisburg. Larry then ascended the ranks as a senior officer specialist and later became a correctional counselor. Transferring to LSCI at Allenwood in 1992, he received the title of Program Specialist/Unit Manager. While being in charge of corrections at the Allenwood complex, Larry carried the title of Captain. He retired from the federal system in December 1995. He later became Deputy Warden at Snyder County Prison in 1997, where he retired after 10 years.

Larry was a member of the Armed Forces, USMC, and a recipient of two purple hearts and numerous citations/medals for outstanding performances while serving in Vietnam.

He attended the Selinsgrove Church of the Nazarene, and was a member of the NRA, several local sportsman’s clubs, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the American Legion.

Larry enjoyed going on hunting trips, fishing, going for “therapy” rides in the country, yardwork, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, he is survived by two daughters, Maria Sheriff and her husband Danny, and Jennifer Kerstetter and her companion, Marvin “Duck” Ulrich; 9 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Alvin Womer; and one sister, Crystal Nace.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Lynne Miller; and a brother, Robert Womer.

Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853, where a funeral service including military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Roger Womer officiating.

Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Mills.
