Laura B. “Barb” Swineford, 93, of Port Trevorton, entered into rest Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born May 15, 1932, in Port Trevorton, a daughter of the late Clarence W. and Eva (Reinard) Herrold. She married Charles “Nup” Brubaker, who preceded her in death in 1967. On April 12, 1969, she married her second husband, Larry L. Swineford, who preceded her in death October 1, 2005.
Barb attended school in Port Trevorton.
She was primarily a homemaker, helping raise her grandson, taking care of her family members, and babysitting Kevin and Joe. She also worked various other jobs throughout her life, including at Port Trevorton Silk Mill and at Freeburg Shirt Factory, until her retirement.
Barb was a member of Grubbs Lutheran Church Women, served on the church council, helped with communion, assisted with funeral luncheons, and was part of the festival committees. She was also a Luther League Advisor, where she took young people camping in Poe Valley.
She enjoyed bus trips to Hollywood Casino, playing cards on Fridays and Saturdays, and going to the shore.
Barb will be remembered for her cheerfulness and enthusiasm, always being willing to lend a hand, and putting everyone else’s needs above her own.
She is survived by one daughter, Catherine Reed; one grandson, Jay Reed; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Barb was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister.
Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 14, 2025, at Botschaft’s (Grubbs) Lutheran Church, 2148 Hoffer Road, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
