Skip was born in Snyder County on January 14, 1931, a son of the late Lee and Edna (Scholl) Swineford.

Skip retired from the Selinsgrove Center, and along with his wife, Gladys, owned and operated Swineford’s Greenhouse in Port Trevorton until its closing in 1996.

He was a member of Grubb’s (Botschaft) Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA. He led the youth group and sang in the choir. He also played the organ for church services.

Skip is survived by a daughter-in-law, Karen Martin of Kreamer; two grandchildren, Andrea Hupp and her husband Christopher of Port Trevorton and Todd Swineford and his wife Kristin of Kreamer; four great-grandchildren, Landon and Holden Hupp and Lorelei and Logan Swineford; sister, Marie and Bob Kline of Liverpool; brother, Walter and Lois Swineford of Milton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his wife, Gladys (Heintzelman) Swineford in December 2014; a son, Gregory Swineford in 1994; brothers, David, Ralph, and Larry; and sisters, Jane Swineford and Elsie Strawser.

He served in the Army from 1952 to 1954 and the Reserves where he was honorably discharged in 1960.

“Grandpa’s” greatest gift was his two grandchildren. He was known as Grandpa at the Middleburg Pool. He would take Andrea and Todd plus anyone else that fit in his car on any given day to the pool. He had as much fun with all the children as they did with each other.
