Richard Scott Reigle passed away peacefully on July 3, 2024, at the age of 97. Dick was born on June 21, 1927, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and spent most of his childhood in Freeburg, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1945, completing his service in 1946 as a Sergeant. He went on to graduate from Bucknell University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity. Dick moved to Severna Park in 1959 where he spent the rest of his life as a devoted father, husband, and active member of the community. He and his wife Mary Lou (Lesher) Reigle would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary this year.

Dick spent most of his career with the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors, retiring as manager of office and budget of the regional office in Washington DC. He enjoyed a wonderful, long retirement of over 40 years, spending time with family and friends. His many hobbies included fishing and scuba diving in the Florida Keys, travel, gardening, building model airplanes, and reading.  His ping pong skills were renowned, and he was always quick to challenge his grandchildren to a game. He loved reading history and biographies and was a lifelong learner.  He was a former member of the Severna Park Council, member of the Severna Park Investment Club, Chartwell Country Club and the Severna Park Methodist Church. Most recently, Dick lived at Ginger Cove in Annapolis, MD, where he participated in the Men’s Bible Study group which provided fellowship and support for his faith journey.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, his son William Scott Reigle of Nashville, TN, and four stepchildren, Denison E. Byrne (Nancy) of Sherwood Forest, MD; Jeffry L. Byrne (Susan) of Birmingham, AL; Ellen Byrne Hunt (Geoff) of Arnold, MD; and John C. Byrne of Ellicott City MD, and was “Pops” to 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Ann (Peggy) Anderson, parents Chester and Blanche Irene Reigle, and his grandson Dustin Scott Reigle.

Throughout his life, Dick was inquisitive, disciplined, very generous and loving. His family and friends will try to live out those characteristics as a tribute to him. He will be keenly missed.

A burial service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Freeburg, at 11:30 am on Thursday, July 11. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Freeburg, PA 17827.
