Catherine W. “Kay” Rhodes, 88, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 26, 2023, at her home with her loving family at her side.

Catherine was born on March 22, 1935, in Scranton, a daughter of the late Mark and Margaret (Rau) Whelan, Sr.  On November 24, 1953, Catherine married her husband, George C. Rhodes, Sr., who preceded her in passing on September 12, 2005.

She was a 1953 graduate of Central High School in Scranton.  From 1986 to 1988, she worked at Good’s Store in Quarryville, PA.  Most importantly, Catherine enjoyed her life being a homemaker for her family. 

Her hobbies included quilting and sewing.  The most precious times in her life were spending time and creating memories with her family.

Catherine is survived by daughter-in-law, Westy Rhodes of Blanchard; her children, Richard M. Rhodes of Chambersburg, Timothy D. Rhodes and his wife Maureen of Peach Bottom, Daniel J. Rhodes of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Paul A. Rhodes and his wife Diane of Troy, Matthew W. Rhodes of Middleburg, and Kathleen A. Rhodes of Mt. Pleasant Mills; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret O’Neal of Hebron, CT and Marion Kelly of Rochester, NY.

She is preceded in passing by her parents; husband, George; son, George C. Rhodes, Jr. on November 23, 2022; daughter-in-law, Pam Rhodes; and brother, Mark Whelan, Jr.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853, with Pastor Ronald Shupe officiating.

Interment will immediately follow in Richfield Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in loving memory of Catherine may be made to the First Baptist Church of Juniata County, c/o Building Fund, 23964 Route 35 N, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
