Edwin Allen (Ed) Schlief, Sr., 68, of Freeburg, entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 12, 2023, with his loving wife and family tenderly at his side.

Ed was born on October 28, 1954, in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Vernon and Betty (Smith) Schlief.  On October 14, 1972, Ed married his beautiful bride, Kathy (Renninger) Schlief.  They recently celebrated their 50 years of marriage.

Ed was passionate about his woodworking.  He and his wife enjoyed many years of self-employment by completing many woodworking projects for local contractors and families.

Along with his passion for woodworking, Ed enjoyed building several Harley’s out of parts and archery shooting.  He was an accomplished archery shooter and his proudest moment was placing second in the State of Pennsylvania.  Most importantly, Ed loved his family and friends, and especially the time he spent with them.  His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Ed is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Sherri Long and her husband Andrew Sweigart; daughter, Tangie Schlief and her husband Chad Petrovich; son, Edwin Schlief and his wife Barbara; grandchildren, Tyler Sweigart and his wife Samantha, Tristan Sweigart and his companion Sarah, Moriah Volinskie and her husband Nicholas, Maryssa Weader, McKenzi Weader, Chelsea Schlief and her companion Kanton Kahley; great-grandchildren, Anna Leigh, Aaliayh, Harper, Levi, Layne, and Parklynn Sweigart and Gavin Volinskie; sisters and brothers, Nancy, Russell, Virgil, Debra, Bill, Delbert and Sandra; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dave; and brother-in-law, Leon Minium.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mt. Pleasant Mills, PA 17853, with Pastor Paul Sheets officiating.

Interment will immediately follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
